The Knitting and Stitching Show returns to the RDS

The knitting and stitching show will return to the RDS this November!

The show will run from the 1st of November to the 4th in the RDS. The show is a brilliant showcase for anyone interested in, studying or working with textiles in Ireland. I remember quite a few of my friends who were studying fashion and textiles in Galway and Dublin going to this last year.

The show attracted 130 exhibitors last year, many selling specialist supplies that you can't find in the shops and galleries in Ireland. For the public there are up to 100 workshops etc. It covers knitting and stitching AND lots more including felt-making, shibori dyeing, jewellery-making, card-making, and mixed media, with exhibitors from Ireland and the UK. I don't really know what shibori dyeing is but it sounds like great fun! Anyone got any ideas?

The Show is expected to attract 23,000 plus visitors from schools and fashion colleges, textiles enthusiasts, novice knitters and those with an interest in upcycling their own fashions.

This year the show will feature:
·         An exhibition of 50 contemporary quilts, curated by the world-acclaimed artist Nancy Crow
·         An Upcycling Competition involving schools from around the country
·         The ‘Fly Away’ gallery which includes works by the inmates of Limerick Prison
·         Dozens of specialist retailers from Ireland and the UK.
·         Local suppliers and specialist high end Irish shops
·         An opportunity to ‘test drive’ the very latest sewing machines
·         A unique chance to meet with Alice Kettle and John Allen and admire their work

Sounds like something to try!
