Posted: 09 Mar 2020 12:00 AM PDT ![]() When it comes to your mother (and your grandma, maybe even your nanny too), it's always good to put your best effort into buying her gifts—but particularly when it comes to Mother's Day. The annual day of gratitude for the woman who put you here is a great excuse to lavish mom with presents, whether its flowers, a chic new handbag or a new dress. And if you're really looking to wow your mama, jewelry is almost always a great option. Whether you want to gift her some new ice, a sentimental mother-daughter matching bauble, or a birthstone coordinated necklace, these are the goods you should snap up before Mother's Day. |
How to Avoid Wearing Maternity Clothes, According to Meghan Markle - Brit + Co Posted: 04 May 2019 12:00 AM PDT We probably don't need to remind you of Meghan Markle's A+ style. It doesn't matter what she's doing or where she's going, she consistently shuts it down with her Cali-cool vibe. Her pregnancy looks were particularly noteworthy because aside from stepping out in fashion-forward maternity label Hatch, she was able to look flawless without actually wearing maternity-specific items thanks to a few always-flattering wardrobe tricks. To see what we mean, swipe through to check out the Duchess of Sussex's best maternity ensembles, complete with styling tips. Wear head-to-toe neutrals for a streamlined vibe: Markle visited The National Theatre on January 30, 2019 in London, England donning a matching Brandon Maxwell dress and blazer getup with a coordinating clutch and stilettos. (Photo via Karwai Tang/Getty) Don't be afraid to use strategic color-blocking: The Duchess of Sussex really went for it leaving the Birkenhead Town Hall on January 14, 2019 in Birkenhead, England in a bright purple dress from Babaton by Aritzia, a contrasting red coat by Sentaler, equally statement-making Stuart Weitzman pumps, and a Gabriella Hearst bag. (Photo via Richard Martin-Roberts/Getty) Elongate your silhouette with a turtleneck design: Markle donned a white Calvin Klein turtleneck dress with an Amanda Wakeley coat, Ralph Lauren clutch, and Christian Louboutin heels while attending a gala performance of The Wider Earth at the Natural History Museum on February 12, 2019 in London, England. (Photo via Max Mumby/Getty) Opt for an empire-waist frock for a complimentary look: Markle visited the Andalusian Gardens in Rabat, Moroco on February 25, 2019 in a black pleated Loyd/Ford dress, a white Aritzia Babton blazer, Manolo Blahnik heels, and gold GAS Bijoux earrings. (Photo via Samir Hussein/Getty) A flowy maxi will always work: For a visit with King Mohammed VI of Morocco on February 25, 2019 in Rabat, Morocco, the Duchess of Sussex stepped out in a custom Carolina Herrera floor-length dress with a gold Dior clutch and Cartier diamond earrings. (Photo via Samir Hussein/Getty) Any all-black getup will be flattering: On January 31, 2019, Markle left the Association of Commonwealth Universities at City, University of London in a black pleated dress and coat by Givenchy, complete with nude Manolo Blahnik heels. (Photo via Mark Cuthbert/Getty) A simple shift dress in an all-over print always a good idea: The Duchess of Sussex opted for an Amanda Wakeley coat over her printed brocade dress with a Wilbur and Gussie clutch and Paul Andrew suede pumps at a reception for the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace in London, England on March 5, 2019. Posted: 15 Dec 2016 12:00 AM PST It's not often that the box jewellery comes in is almost as beautiful as what's inside it, but the refurbished antique jewellery boxes that house Jessica McCormack's "Tasting Menu" of earrings are something to behold. In a variety of shapes, refurbished with lavender suede inside, the boxes are the sort of thing you'd want to have out on display – preferably fully stocked with McCormack's signature antique-inspired jewels. The idea for the Tasting Menu came about as McCormack revisited the multiple piercings she had in her ears since her teens. While a pair of three-carat cushion-cut diamond studs or drops on sleek gold French hooks look divine in the traditional place – bang in the middle of the earlobe – it's a bit much to fill additional piercing holes with equally large stones. McCormack already offered a large variety of studs in various shapes and sizes – hearts and rounds, stonkingly big or manageably little – but an earful of earrings requires at least some genuinely tiny pieces. Instead of churning out classic studs, however, McCormack created a mix of shrunk-down versions of her most iconic pieces, and new, tiny designs created specifically for multiple piercings. And given how many of her clients wanted a single stud to wear in a hole in their helix, along with a pair of great big diamond drops, it made the most sense to offer the tiny pieces singly, rather than in pairs. You can, of course, just buy one individual earring, as many of her clients do, but the beauty of the pieces is really heightened when they're worn together, which is why the Tasting Menu was created – an opportunity to make your own selection of individual pieces, all with the jeweller's distinct aesthetic, and then mix and match them to your heart's content. There are stalactite-like amethyst drops, miniscule gold scallop shells, wire-thin bamboo rings and teeny diamond drops on gold hoops, as well as the classic diamond studs in McCormack's signature Georgian cut-down setting – a contemporary take on an antique technique where the metal looks like it has been pinched over the stones. Little hoops are either pave-set with diamonds or seed pearls the size of a grand of sand, and sapphires and rubies are given the same treatment as diamonds. Given that the boxes can hold a dozen earrings, the options for what exact mix you go for are endless – but since they've all sprung from the same creator's mind, there's no way to get it wrong. This is one menu to take your sweet time over. From £9,000; jessicamccormack.com |
